Up on the bluffs the story changes. Clover Ridge, the neighborhoods along Pioneer Trail and Bavaria Rd, and the newer plats south of Engler Blvd went in between 2000 and 2022. Jonathan, the 1970s planned community with its trails and townhomes, fills the gap between the two. Hazeltine, the curling center and Firemen's Park give us landmarks for finding a house on a curving cul-de-sac.
Two housing eras mean two fault lists. Downtown Chaska houses are a century old or more, with laundry in a stone-walled basement, a dryer vent that exits through a window well, and a refrigerator on a porch that dips below freezing. The bluff subdivisions are 2000s two-stories with a laundry room on the second floor, a three-stall garage holding a second fridge and a chest freezer, and builder-package appliances now hitting the age where boards and pumps give out. A 2008 two-story where the dishwasher ran but left everything wet and filmed. The softener had been out of salt since before Thanksgiving. The heating element measured open, coated in scale like a kettle. We replaced it, cleared the spray arms, and the homeowner refilled the brine tank while we ran the test cycle.
