We leave Prairie Center Dr, pick up Hwy 101 or I-494 north, and within a few exits the lots widen, the driveways lengthen, and the houses drop a level into the hillside. Glen Lake and the streets off Excelsior Blvd come first, then Minnetonka Mills along Minnehaha Creek, then Ridgedale and the neighborhoods north of I-394, and west along Hwy 7 toward the Lake Minnetonka shore. A Minnetonka route rarely runs in a straight line; the roads curve around wetlands and the addresses hide behind oaks, so we confirm the driveway before we arrive rather than hunting for a mailbox.
The housing is mostly 1960s through 1990s, with walk-out basements, kitchens updated at least once, and a laundry room that may be on any of three levels. Toward the lake the kitchens turn to Sub-Zero, Wolf and Thermador; along Hwy 7 they stay Whirlpool and GE. All of it runs on Minnetonka’s municipal wells, which deliver hard water with a fair amount of iron, so softeners are universal and a softener problem turns into an appliance call fast. Iron staining inside dishwashers and washers is more common here than in Edina. Winters add refrigerators in detached garages and dryer vents that exit into snowdrifts on the low side of a walk-out.

A ten-year-old French-door refrigerator behind Ridgedale is warm on top and frozen below. The evaporator coil is a block of ice and the defrost heater reads open on the meter. We replace the heater and the thermostat together, clear the ice properly, and confirm airflow to the fresh-food side before leaving.
A gas dryer in a walk-out laundry room near Minnehaha Creek heats for one cycle, then blows cold. The gas valve coils hold when cool and drop out when warm, a classic pattern. Both coils are on the truck; we replace them, check the vent flap that sits a foot above the snow line, and run two cycles.
