Measure the vent run on an Eden Prairie two-story and you understand most of the dryer calls we take here. In Hidden Ponds, Bearpath and the newer streets west of Eden Prairie Rd the laundry sits on the second floor or in the middle of the main level, and the duct travels twenty or thirty feet with two or three elbows before it reaches a flap on the side of the house. Every foot collects lint. The 1970s houses in The Preserve and around Anderson Lakes vent a basement or mudroom dryer straight through the rim joist, a much shorter path, but the flap on the outside ices shut the same way in January.

Drum rollers, the idler pulley, the rear bearing or a glazed belt. We remove the drum, replace the worn support parts together so a new roller is not riding on an old axle, and check the blower housing for the coin or bra wire that often adds a rattle.
Shut the dryer off and call. Lint has reached the heater or burner area, or a belt is slipping and heating. We clean out the cabinet, inspect the element or burner, replace anything scorched, and clear the vent. This call gets an early window because a lint fire is the alternative.
A motor with weak start windings, an over-temperature thermostat tripping, or a control board dropping out under load. Gas units also stop when the flame sensor cannot confirm ignition. We watch it fail with the meter connected so the cause is measured, not guessed.
A door switch that does not close the circuit, a thermal fuse on models where the fuse controls the motor, a failed start switch, or a tripped 240-volt breaker. The door switch is the most common and is tested first, then power is traced through the fuse and board.
The technician opens the cabinet and clips the meter to the heating circuit first, reading the element or igniter, the fuses and thermostats, and on gas units the flame sensor. Then the airflow gauge goes on the outlet, because the vent tells us whether the fault will come back. On a second-floor Eden Prairie laundry room we also look at the transition duct behind the machine, which is usually crushed against the wall. You get the failed part named plainly, the airflow reading explained, and one price on paper.
