Edina kitchens hold a wider spread of cooking equipment than anywhere else on our route. The Rolling Green and Indian Hills estates were fitted with Wolf, Thermador, Viking and Dacor ranges, some with two ovens and a griddle, and the wall ovens are Miele or JennAir set into custom cabinetry. Country Club and Morningside kitchens remodeled in the 2000s often hold a slide-in gas range where a 1920s stove once stood, fed by a line that was extended at the same time. The Southdale and Pamela Park ramblers run a freestanding electric range or a coil-top from the 1990s that has done twenty years of dinners. Our truck comes in on Hwy 100 or the Crosstown and carries parts for the whole range of them.
The call we hear most often in Edina goes like this. The oven lights, the display counts up to 350, and dinner takes an hour longer than the recipe says; a thermometer inside reads 290. On a gas oven that is a tired igniter drawing too little current to hold the valve open through the cycle. On an electric oven it is a bake element that has lost part of its length or an oven sensor drifting high. The second most common is a burner on a glass-top with a dead zone, which is a radiant element or the surface switch behind the knob. Both are same-visit repairs in most kitchens.
Spilled soup has plugged the burner ports, the igniter tip is cracked, or the spark module has stopped firing that position. We clean the ports, test the igniter and module, and check the switch. If all burners click without lighting, the gas supply or the regulator gets checked first.
Gas: a weak igniter that glows but never pulls enough current to open the safety valve fully. Electric: a bake element with a break, or a sensor reading high so the control shuts off early. We measure the igniter’s current draw and the sensor’s resistance against a thermometer in the cavity.
F1, F2 and F3 series codes on Whirlpool, KitchenAid, GE and Frigidaire ovens usually mean a sensor, a keypad or a relay board; F9 on many models is the door lock. We read the code, check the part the code names with a meter, and confirm before replacing anything, because the board is not always the problem.
A radiant element under the glass has opened, or the infinite switch behind the knob has burnt a contact. We lift the top, meter the element and the switch, and replace whichever failed. Cracked glass from a dropped pan is a different job, and we tell you what that involves.
The lock motor or its switch did not release when the cavity cooled, or the high-limit thermostat tripped. We release the door, test the lock assembly, and check the thermostat. Self-clean at 900°F is hard on older ovens, and we will tell you if yours should skip it.
A pan-detection fault, a failed inverter board on one side of the cooktop, or a cooling fan that has stopped so the board shuts down. We test with a known pan, check the fan, and read the diagnostic mode. Boards are ordered and fitted with no second trip fee.
We open a range the same way every time. Power and gas are confirmed at the source, then the bake and broil circuits are metered, the igniter is clamped for current draw during a live call for heat, and the oven sensor is read against an independent thermometer while the cavity climbs. For a cooktop, each position is tested at the switch and at the element or burner. Only then do we name the part. With Wolf, Thermador and Viking in the Indian Hills kitchens the parts are different but the method is the same, and we carry the common igniters and spark modules for those lines. One price goes on paper before the repair starts.
Whirlpool, KitchenAid, GE, Frigidaire, Samsung, LG, Bosch and Electrolux ranges fill most of the Edina calendar, with Wolf, Thermador, Viking, Dacor and JennAir in the Rolling Green, Indian Hills and Interlachen kitchens. On a modern oven it is the oven sensor, a probe inside the cavity that reports temperature to the control, or on gas ovens an igniter too weak to keep the valve open. We test both against a thermometer and adjust or replace. A simple calibration offset is sometimes all it needs.
We repair the range itself and check its connection for leaks with a detector before and after the work. If the supply line, shutoff or regulator behind the wall is the problem, we tell you and stop there, because that piping is licensed gas-fitter work, not appliance repair.
Usually yes. A single radiant element or an infinite switch is a same-visit repair on most Whirlpool, GE, Frigidaire and Samsung cooktops. A cracked glass top is a bigger job and depends on the model; we quote it in writing after the $99 diagnostic and you decide.
There is a $99 diagnostic first. Once the failed part is confirmed, you receive one written number for the entire repair and that $99 is already inside it. Nothing is quoted before the oven has been tested, and if you decline the repair the $99 is all you pay.
